What does presence mean in virtual spaces?

I am studying and using hands as a subject matter because it's a body part that we use a lot with technology and it's the body part you see the most in virtual/VR spaces

In VR experiences you can see your hands but they aren't attached to your body. I wanted to replicate this in my photographs

I've started experimenting with some hand collage as well
